Most cable companies are actually capping their 512Mb services at 600.
ADSL actually gives a 576000 connect speed, leaving 512Kb/s after TCP/IP
overheads.

That's a pointless question, since they will always be capped at some
speed. ADSL is currently available at 0.5, 1 and 2MB/s. The theoretical
maximum for the current UK ADSL setup is 8MB/s.

ADSL is a better service, and more reliable is you use a decent ISP
(i.e. not BT). But cable is a lot cheaper. However, this is all moot is
only one is available to you :)

Cable works directly with Miami or MiamiDx. All you need is a network
card. ADSL uses a USB modem, so you either need a router or an old PC
acting as a gateway. An old 486 desktop unit running Smoothwall will do
fine, it doesn't even need a keyboard or monitor once the software is
installed, all configuration and control is done through a web
interface.
